Hop Hop Hop: the song, original clip and meme credits

Updated November 1, 2026

The song behind the “squished or get squashed” dance is Её парень by Shluzov. The hallway clip shown on our homepage is by @nirami1 with @colehairlesscat. Its caption credits @kiaramia.w and @gabilagaba as inspiration. Those are three different kinds of credit: music, this particular performance, and the inspiration named by its creator.

What is the Hop Hop Hop song called?

Look for Её парень — Shluzov on Apple Music. The Russian title translates to “Her Boyfriend.” Apple Music lists it on the album Любимый сайт, released January 23, 2026. “Hop Hop Hop” is the phrase people use to find the dance; it is not the track’s catalog title.

If a search brings up a nursery rhyme or an unrelated hopping dance, add “Shluzov,” “Её парень,” or “squished or get squashed.” Searching the artist and Russian title is more specific than searching the three repeated words alone.

Which original video are we showing?

Our hallway reference is Nirami’s TikTok post with Cole, dated October 24 on the post. One performer stands close to the camera while the other stands down the hall. After three small hops, the foreground hand appears to squash the distant person. A cut swaps their positions and the joke repeats.

Here, “original clip” means the creator’s source post for the footage we show. It does not mean we have established the first person ever to perform the dance. Nor is that footage an output from our AI generator.

The source caption says “inspo by” and tags kiara mia and gabi. We preserve that credit chain rather than assigning invention of the entire trend to the hallway performers. The caption alone does not settle who first devised every move.

Why does TikTok show a different sound name?

The hallway post links to a sound page labeled “suara asli - Venadeaakira”. A TikTok sound label identifies the uploaded sound used by that post; it is not necessarily the song title or songwriter credit.

For the same timing as this reference, open its sound link from the source post and check the excerpt before filming. For identifying the underlying song, use the Shluzov catalog link above. These two links solve different problems.

Do not assume every “Hop Hop Hop” upload has the same speed. Edits can change the tempo and starting point. There is no fixed speed multiplier we can verify for every version of the trend, so rehearse against the actual audio you plan to use instead of copying a random speed setting.

What makes it “squished or get squashed”?

The joke is a reversal of scale and power: the person near the lens looks large enough to press the distant person down, then becomes the small person after the cut. The apparent contact comes from lining up the hand and head in the camera image. The performers do not need to touch.

The recognizable sequence is a point toward the distant partner, three hops, a palm moving down with the partner’s crouch, and a role swap. Different rooms, outfits and pairs can keep the same visual punchline.

Can you make it without AI?

Yes. Two people, a fixed phone and two matched takes are enough to stage the perspective trick. Our step-by-step filming guide explains where to stand, how to align the palm and how to place the swap cut.
